A better alternative is to apply the
0:02
zoom with a video editor while
0:04
postprocessing.
0:06
There will be a slight loss of
0:07
resolution if the footage is encoded in
0:10
4K, unless using the Mavic 4 Pro, as the
0:13
main camera can record video at a
0:15
resolution of 6K.
0:18
Let me show how to apply a progressive
0:20
zoom using Premiere Pro. The process is
0:23
very similar to most other video
0:25
editors. The clip starts with the
0:27
aircraft cross to the target. We go to
0:30
the first frame and add four reference
0:32
guides to frame the target.
0:36
We can slightly zoom in or out and place
0:39
the target in the middle of the frame.
0:44
Then we click on the stopwatches on the
0:46
left for position and zoom to set key
0:50
frames and store the values for that
0:52
point.
0:54
Then we move to the last point. We zoom
0:57
in to reposition the monastery to fill
0:59
the grid line so that the target
1:01
maintains the same dimension throughout
1:03
the clip.
1:05
We then add two more key frames for the
1:08
same values.
1:13
This is the result. The monastery
1:15
maintains the same size while the
1:17
background gives an impression of
1:18
movement disorienting the viewer.
1:24
For an extra element of surprise, we can
1:26
add some rotation.
1:30
We go back to the first frame, add the
1:32
positive value for a rotation of + 4°
1:36
and add the key frame.
1:40
Then we move to the end, enter a value
1:42
minus 5° and set another key frame.
1:48
The result is even more intriguing with
1:50
a touch of FPV feel.
1:58
If you're using a Mavic 4 Pro, the
2:00
rotation can be performed on camera
2:03
taking advantage of the Infinity gimbal.
