The free mode is the only one that allows the use of the two sticks of the remote controller while shooting
0:07
But for timelapses where we intend to move in several directions, the mode waypoints works much better
0:14
Therefore free is to be used only with timelapse with a static point of view
0:20
Static timelapses are very interesting when the scene contains a good amount of movement

After choosing free in the menu to the left, we open the window at the bottom by twirling the arrow to the right
0:34
We choose first the interval, in this case one shot every 5 seconds, and we tap on the check sign to the right to confirm
0:43
Then we choose the length, I go for 12 seconds, even though it will be borderline because of the battery life
0:51
Then we can set the maximum speed, but in our case we don't need it since the drone will be hovering
0:58
When we close the small window we can see the shooting time needed and the number of shots
1:03
We are ready to go and we can hit the red shutter button. While shooting we can increase the length of the final video by tapping on the icon on the right of the small window
1:13
If we need to stop the hyperlapse, maybe because we are running short of batteries, we can do so by tapping on the red shutter again
1:22
And indeed I had to stop before the end, as it was getting a bit risky for the battery life
1:29
This is the result at a speed of 5 seconds. Static timelapses are a good test for the stability of a drone while hovering and the Mini 3 behaved extremely well

although it must be said that there was no wind at all
